‘Terra Nullius’, is a short film documenting Imants’ personal experience of the Black Summer bushfires and how these catastrophic events served as the inspiration behind his new 288 panel work, ‘Terra Nullius’.

Imants Tillers discusses the creation and controversy surrounding the painting The Nine Shots, examining how the work incorporates imagery from German artist Georg Baselitz and Aboriginal artist Michael Nelson Jagamara.

“Terra incognita is for me a kind of homage to indigenous Australia, a lament for the tragedies of all the lost tribes, languages and cultures of Australia but also, simultaneously, a kind of honour roll for the spectacular resurgence of their culture. This has been revealed to the wider world through art and especially through the medium of painting – an amazing phenomenon to which all Australians have borne witness over the last 30 years.”
